The simplest and mouth-wateringly deliciousest starter.  First sampled at the culinary wizard-hand of hennachick via Delia’s How to Cook Book 2 and here.

Roasted Figs with Gorgonzola and Honey-vinegar Sauce

Serves 4 as a starter – I reckon this is hugely gutsy if there are loads more courses in the offing – up to you.  Delia, you’re a gannet.

  • 12 ripe figs
  • 175g gorgonzola piccante in 5mm diced cubes
  • salt and milled pepper

for the sauce;

  • 2 tablespoons greek honey (any runny hunny :-))
  • 2 tablespoons red wine vinegar

Putting together

  • wipe and halve the figs
  • place, cut side up, on baking tray and season with pepper and salt
  • grill for 5-6 minutes until soft and slightly bubbly
  • squash the cubes of cheese onto each fig
  • grill for a further 2 minutes until cheese is bubbly and golden
  • make the sauce by combining the honey and vinegar and pour over figs to serve

I realise this photo may not 100% sell people on this but, trust me, it is a taste sensation…
