As the weather trundles on in its arctic/monsoonal cycle, the gull turns to cosmetics after mainlining Lisa Eldridge’s makeup tutorials. I like her enthusiastic, I-can’t-believe-I-can-do-this-for-a-living approach to all things enhancing. There’s a healthy mix of affordable and luxe alternatives. Check out her tutorial for mature makeup, on a lady called Yvonne. It’s gone viral – hurrah for the face with no cosmetic surgery etc.
After a pleasurable browse in Superdrug (website fab for deals) on a rainy, windy morning, my cheap buys which work really well are;
Sheer, moisturising, non-sticky lipglosses for £1. Seven colours.
Lipboom. Double ended lipsticks. Matt lipstick one end, glittertastic gloss the other end. I really like the lipstick. A little of the gloss goes a long way but also non-sticky. £3.
Rimmel
Lycra pro nail varnish. A revelation – a cheap and cheerful pick-you-up – do it while you’re watching a film – lasts me a week of all the usual nail abuse. £3.99 but less for multiples from Boots/Superdrug. Have all sorts of colours – really love the peppermint from the new colours – top of stack below. Works well with CND sticky base and Seche Vite dry fast top coat.
Revlon
I like loads of stuff from this range but particularly the little Miracle Touch creamy blush – mine’s in Murano – good for cheeks and lips – natural colour.
